For some teams, the goal is to have fun and see growth, but for others, the goal is to win championships. It is important to identify what your goal is for each season.
In an interview at the University of Southern California, Kobe Bryant said, “I’m not here to be a great teammate, I’m here to help you win championships. Fortunately for us, we had an organization in which it was championships or nothing, and they were really good at identifying that and bringing players in here that had that competitive streak and getting rid of the ones that did not.”
He then said, “If I got to fight you to get you in the gym, that’s a problem. You want players who are gym rats, players that want to be in the gym, that want to work, and then from there, you build on top of that. But if you’re lazy, I don’t want to talk to you, and I don’t want to deal with you. You are going to lower my level.”
