WRITE IT DOWN and CHANGE YOUR LIFE | Week Devo

What if you could completely change your life by writing down what you want?

A co-worker of mine told me about a family tradition in which they write down what they want on paper, they put it in the Bible, and God finds a way to make it happen.

When she was a principal and they needed to separate from a teacher, they would write that teacher’s name on paper and put it in the Bible, and that teacher would have or find a new place to work the next year. They said they have a 100% success rate with every struggling teacher they have put in the Bible.

When her cousins had struggles in relationships, they would write down what they were looking for in a spouse, and all of them found exactly what they wrote down.

My co-worker said that this isn't a wishing well, but it is an opportunity to ask God for guidance and put your full trust in Him.

In the video below, actor and author Steve Harvey shared a similar message. He says God wants us to ask Him for what we want and to write it down. In the video, he gives two Bible verses that he said completely changed his life.

They are:

1 - You have not because you ask not.

(James 4:2-3)

2 - Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, so that he who reads it may run to it, and though it may tarry (take a long time), wait for it, for surely it will come at an appointed time. (Habakkuk 2:2)

James was the half-brother of Jesus and he emerged as a prominent leader in the Christian church after Jesus's death. In James 4, he was writing to the Jewish Christians, urging them to overcome internal conflicts that came from jealousy by embracing humility and submitting to God. He said you don't have what you want because you don't ask God for it or if you do ask, you don't get it because your motives are all wrong. But he later writes, "He [God] gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. So humble yourselves before God."

Steve said he doesn’t know anybody wealthy or successful who doesn’t have a vision board or doesn't have their goals written down. If you do these two things: ask God for what you want and write it down, you can transform your life.

I’d like to add two Bible verses to this message:

3 - “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

(Matthew 7:7)

4 - “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

(James 2:26)

Matthew 7 is a part of Jesus's famous Sermon on the Mount. Jesus tells us to ask God for what we want and then to keep working for it. He later says:

"You parents - if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Of if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him?"

If we ask God, have faith, and do the work that we are supposed to do, we can trust that He will do the rest.

The beginning of the New Year is a great time to reset, reflect, and set a new vision for your life and new goals, but you don’t have to wait until a new year to make a change.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr once said, “The time is always right to do what’s right.”

A new year, new month, a new week, or a new day are all great times to set new goals.

What are 3-5 things you want to put on your vision board or list? Don’t think small; think big!!

Write them down on a piece of paper and put them in your Bible. It would be great if you could use it as a bookmark and open it up every morning and night, read your list, read a verse or two in the Bible, and then pray over your list.

Then after you write your list and put it in your Bible, do the things you need to do to make it happen. God expects you to do what you can, and He will handle the rest.

SOMETHING(s) TO THINK ABOUT

1 - What are 5 things you hope you earn this year, get, or happen to you?

2 - For each thing you hope happens, what is something you can or need to do to help make it happen?
