Week 45 | Joy in Adversity

Scripture: Romans 5:3-5

"We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love."

Devotional

Life is like a roller coaster; sometimes it goes up, and sometimes it feels like it's spiraling down. One game or season, you can be on top of the world, but the next game or season, you find yourself down at the bottom. Romans 3:5 is like a guidebook for how to manage the curveball that life can throw at you. It sheds light on how challenges can actually mold us into stronger, more resilient people.

Let's break it down.

Getting Stronger:

Imagine you're at the gym, and the weights are super heavy. Those weights are like the problems and tough obstacles we face. The Bible says we can actually be happy when facing these challenges because they help us become stronger inside, like building muscles.

Your muscles only grow after they have been stretched and torn apart. We grow when we are stretched beyond our comfort zone.

Becoming a Hero:

As we face these tough times, we're not just getting strong physically but on the inside too. It's like becoming a hero in a story! Dealing with problems helps us grow a character that's solid. God is like our personal trainer, making sure we become the best versions of ourselves.

Hope that's Like Super Glue:

Now, think about hope as your secret superpower. The Bible says this hope is so strong; it's like super glue. It sticks with us no matter what. It's not the kind of hope that lets you down, but a hope that's sure and certain. And the reason? God loves us so much! He even gave us a special friend, the Holy Spirit, to make sure our hearts are filled with love.

Take a Pause:

When things get a bit tough, remember that it's like a workout for your character. You're getting stronger, and God's love is always there, keeping you hopeful. So, take a deep breath, smile, and know that God's got your back!

Prayer:

Dear, God. thanks for being with us in the ups and downs of life. Help us see the good in tough times, and remind us that your love is like a superpower that never lets us down. In Jesus' name, amen!
