Every team needs leaders - athletes who do the right thing, who inspire others to do the right thing, and who lead others to do the right thing.
It's simple math; the more teammates we have doing the right thing, the better we will be.
The same goes for the world. We live in a world of sin. The more sins we commit, the tougher it is to live.
A recent article by The Atlantic titled, "How Americans Got Mean," is led by two guiding questions: Why have Americans become so sad? and Why have Americans become so mean?
Maybe the most powerful solution is given in Matthew 28:19-20:
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.
This is called The Great Commission. Jesus is the one person to come into this world and live without sin. His message was about love, hope, grace, and doing the right thing. If we lived that message and inspired others to do so as well, how much better could we make the world around us?
One of my goals is to leave every locker room and classroom better than I found it. The foundation of doing so is living a life that is pleasing to God. How do I know what pleases God?
By reading the Bible daily, by praying, and by sitting quietly and speaking with and listening to God. When we read the Bible, we read His instructions. When we pray, we can ask for the things we want and need. When we sit quietly, the Holy Spirit can speak to us and give us direction.
This week, go and make your teams better by doing the right thing and inspiring others to do so. Read your Bible daily so you can better discern between right and wrong. Pray to God that He will help you see and do the things that need to be done. Sit quietly and listen for God's voice and direction.
Finally, when people ask you where your strengths, gifts, and joy come from, tell them Jesus. This is one way to make disciples of all nations - by giving all glory to God and by encouraging others to seek a relationship with Him through Jesus.
This week, seek to make the world a better place.
