“He will guard the feet of His faithful ones, but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness.” - 1 Samuel 2:9
Your coaches have power. They play who they want, promote who they want, and champion who they want.
How do you put yourself in a position to be the one whom they play, promote, and champion? It helps if you can figure out what they value and provide it as much as possible.
Rapper Kevin Gates once said, “If you can’t be used, you are useless. I don’t mind you using me, just don’t abuse me.”
Find ways for your coach to use you as much as possible.
The most important coach in our lives is God.
God has all the power. God created the heavens and the earth and everything in it. He blesses and curses whom He chooses.
The Book of Samuel is a story of a prophet, Samuel, who was dedicated to God by his mother Hannah before he was born. Hannah was not able to have kids, so she prayed to God and promised that if she did have a son, she would give him to the Lord for all the days of his life (1 Samuel 11).
I love the prayer that Hannah prayed in 1 Samuel 2:
“The Lord brings death and makes alive; he brings down to the grave and raises up. The Lord sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor.”
“For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; on them, he has set the world. He will guard the feet of his faithful servants, but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness.
God has the power to bring life and death. He can bring down and raise up. To receive life and to be brought up, we have to be His faithful servants.
All we have to do is do the right thing. We have to believe that God is the only God. We have to pray to Him for guidance, we have to wait for Him, we have to believe in Him, and we have to listen to Him.
There are a million ways to play a sport and a million ways to coach. But if you want to find true success, it helps if you can listen to your coach and do what they ask to the best of your ability. That brings trust, and trust leads to more opportunities.
Listening to and trusting God will also lead to more opportunities.
