Nick Saban | 5 Choices

In the video below, Alabama coach Nick Saban breaks down the human ability to succeed, and at what level, to five choices we all have in life:

  1. “We can be bad at what we do.”

  2. “We can be average at what we do.”

  3. We can be good at what we do.”

  4. “We can be excellent at what we do."

  5. “We can be elite at what we do."

Everybody has a choice as to what they want to do and how they want to do it, but if you want to be elite, you have to do special things. You have to have special intensity, you have to have special focus, and you have to have a special commitment, drive, and passion to do things at a high standard and a high level at all times.

SOMETHING(s) TO THINK ABOUT

1 - What is your biggest takeaway from the video?

2 - What is something you want to be elite at?

3 - How can you go from good to excellent, then from excellent to elite?

4 - What is one thing that is keeping you from being elite?

Eric Thomas is one of my favorite motivational speakers. Over 10 years ago, he gave one of the most inspirational speeches I have ever heard. He said, "When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful."

Since then, he has been one of my go-to when I need motivation and/or inspiration.

In the video below, he gives a speech about COMPETING. He starts by saying, "You have to be competitive."

Competing means having a STRONG desire to win.

2 - COMPETING IN BUSINESS

He starts by saying, "You have to be competitive." Competing means having a STRONG desire to win. He says, "If you are going to do business in America, you have to play to win. You have to get into a space where you have that dawg."

SOMETHING(s) TO THINK ABOUT

1 - What is your biggest takeaway from the video?

2 - When are you most competitive?

3 - When are you least competitive?

4 - Who is the most competitive person you know?

3 - A MESSAGE FOR PARENTS

At the 1:27 mark, he sends a message to parents. He said, "What's wrong with a lot of our kids is that we have given them everything they want, and when we do, we take that dawg out of them. They are still great kids, but they don't have that dawg. They have to learn how to compete. They have to learn how to get up and go get theirs."

SOMETHING(s) TO THINK ABOUT

1 - What is your biggest takeaway from the video?

2 - Why is having that dawg within important for our kids?

3 - How can we grow the dawg within them?

4 - WAKE UP WITH THAT DAWG

At the 3:00 mark, Eric says you need a strong desire to win or be the best at something. Wake up every day and compete. He said you can't always be the most talented in the room, but you can be the most competitive. If you want to make yourself attractive, COMPETE. No matter what is going on in your life, COMPETE.

SOMETHING(s) TO THINK ABOUT

1 - What is your biggest takeaway from the video?

2 - What is the difference between being talented and competitive?

3 - What is more valuable - being talented or competitive?

4 - How important is it to connect with people?

5 - On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest, how competitive are you?
