"I’ve failed over and over again, and that is why I succeed". - Michael Jordan
Failure is a part of everyone’s journey. Nothing great in life has been accomplished without some failure.
Michael Jordan is considered the best basketball player ever. While most people know of him as one of the greatest winners and most clutch performers in the history of the NBA, Jordan said his failures helped him become the champion he is.
In one commercial, Jordan said, “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life, and that is why I succeed.”
In another commercial, Jordan said, “Maybe it’s my fault. Maybe I led you to believe it was easy when it wasn’t. Maybe I made you think my highlights started at the free throw line, and not in the gym. Maybe I made you think that every shot I took was a game-winner; that my game was built on flash and not fire. Maybe it’s my fault that you didn’t see that failure gave me strength; that my pain was my motivation. Maybe I led you to believe that basketball was a God-given gift and not something I worked for every single day of my life. Maybe I destroyed the game, or maybe you’re just making excuses.”
Failure is a part of everyone’s journey. The best don’t let failure scare them or define them; they attack it, learn from it, and grow from it.
Question of the Day: What is your relationship with failure? How do you overcome your fear of it, learn from it, and grow from it?
