MAMBA MONDAYS | FIRST DREAM, THEN WORK

In an interview at USC before he passed, NBA legend Kobe Bryant was asked about his thought process during the game where he scored 81 points.

Kobe said that when he was a kid, he always dreamed of scoring 70, 80, or 100 points. He would imagine playing for the Lakers, what the uniforms would look like, and even the smell of the arena. He said he grew up downloading that into his brain over and over, and the summer before scoring 81 points, he said he made 1,000 shots every day on top of weight training and conditioning. He said they were shots that we saw in the game. His workouts were very specific.

Kobe said, “When you download that into your system, then you go and execute things on the court that you have done 1,000s of times before, and you have that dream, then it becomes possible.”

It starts with a dream and seeing yourself being successful. Then you have to go and practice, practice, and practice some more.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1 - What is your biggest takeaway from this video?

2 - What is a dream that you have? Can you imagine what it looks like, feels like, and even smells like?

3 - What is something you can do or practice 1,000s so that you can become so good that your dream becomes a reality?
