In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, before he passed away, Kobe talked about almost leaving the Lakers and how Dr. Jerry Buss convinced him to stay because of his vision, confidence, and belief in Kobe.
Dr. Buss was one of the best owners in professional sports and led the LA Lakers to 5 NBA championships. He was loved by most of his players.
When Kimmel asked him why every player loved Dr. Buss so much, Kobe said, "He knew exactly what his vision was; he had a very clear plan. When you sat down and talked to him, he was very patient, he was very understanding, and he communicated clearly. He allowed my room to grow as a person. When I first came there, I was 17 years old. He allowed me to grow and mature."
I am helping run a leadership development program in my school district, and one of the first questions we ask is, "Who is a leader whom you respect and why?"
