“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” - Abraham Lincoln
JP Morgan was one of the most powerful businesspeople in our country's history.
There’s a story about a man who approached him with an envelope and said, “Sir, in my hand I hold a guaranteed formula for success, which I will gladly sell to you for $25,000.”
JP Morgan replied, “I don’t know what’s in the envelope. However, if you show me and I like it, I will give you my word as a gentleman that I will pay you what you ask.”
The man agreed, gave the envelope to JP Morgan, and when he opened it, JP Morgan pulled out a single page that said:
1 - Every morning, write a list of the things that need to be done that day.
2 - Do them.
JP Morgan paid the man $25,000.
Life is simple: Have a plan, write it down, and stick to it. Have long-term goals and short-term goals, and every day, make a list of the things you need to do to get closer to achieving those goals.
The problem comes when we allow our feelings and other things to distract us and force us off track. Figure out what is distracting you, and create a plan to beat it.
Identify the distractions, and then create a plan to eliminate them.
Greatness is on the other side of focus. Have a plan, stay focused, and stick to the plan.
Question of the Day: What is keeping you from writing a list of things that need to be done every morning? What is distracting you or keeping you from sticking to your list?
