Tom Brady is one of the best athletes and leaders we have ever seen, and some keys to his success are his competitive spirit, his discipline in making the right choices, and his ability to connect and motivate the people around him.
In an interview with Forbes titled Tom Brady’s Leadership Playbook, Brady said they created a competitive culture with the Patriots where they showed up early, stayed late, and competed with and for each other.
Brady says he now has 1,000s of brothers all over the world; teammates with whom he shared some of the best experiences. He said, “We all loved each other and we loved what we were trying to accomplish.”
Love is the key.
Loving who you are, loving what you do, and loving who you do it with are three of the keys to living a full, complete life.
John the Apostle was one of Jesus' twelve disciples. He is often referred to as "the disciple whom Jesus loved" in the Gospel of John.
John wrote the Gospel of John and 1 John, 2 John, and 3 John. One of the common themes throughout all of his books is love.
One of the most famous verses in the Bible comes from John 3:16 where he wrote, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
This verse shows the love that God has for us - that He loved us so much that He sent His son to show us how to live a righteous and Godly life and then to die for us.
How could we ever repay Him?
By making good choices and walking in love.
In 3 John 1:11, John wrote, “Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.”
Success leaves clues, and we make good choices, we show that we are believers and followers of God.
In 2 John 1:4-5, he wrote, “I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father. And now I ask you, dear lady—not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—that we love one another.”
In the gospels Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Jesus says the two greatest commandments are to love God and to love our neighbor.
One of my favorite verses from John comes in 1 John 4:18 where he wrote, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.”
Love who you are, love what you do, love who you do it with, and make good choices.
If you follow that plan, you give yourself the best opportunity to look at your life proud of what you’ve done and who you’ve done it with.
Something(s) to Think About
1 - What is your biggest takeaway from this devotional?
2 - What is something you love doing? How can you leverage that love into more success?
3 - Who is someone with whom you can work to build a better relationship with, and how can you do that?
My Prayer
Our Father. Thank you for giving me gifts and passions to pursue. Please help me to love who I am, love what I do, and love what I do it with. When I face struggles and adversity, please help me remember to live and lead with love. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
