The start of a new year is an opportunity to start fresh.
Every Monday, I like to do a Mamba Monday post in honor of the late basketball star Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant was known for his Mamba Mentality. According to Kobe, the Mamba Mentality means, "Trying to be the best version of yourself. Every day, you are trying to become better."
This first Monday of the new year, I found a relevant message that Kobe shared with the Alabama football team before the start of one of their seasons.
Kobe said to them,
“Edit your life. Ask yourself, ‘What’s most important to you?’ When you do that, things become clear rather quickly. If things in your life don’t align, get rid of that because it’s not important.”
Life is full of distractions, and if we aren't careful, those distractions can consume us and keep us from living the life we want to live. It's important to take some time to think about how you want to live, what makes you happy, and what brings you joy. It is also important to think about, recognize, and be aware of the barriers to happiness and joy.
This year, do more of what brings you love, joy, and peace, and intentionally remove the barriers and distractions.
This first week of 2023, take some time to edit your life. Ask yourself, “What are the 1-5 things that are most important to me?” Write them down. Then monitor your thoughts, your words, and your actions. If something does not align with what you say is essential, get rid of it because it doesn’t matter and it is only holding you back.
THIS WEEK
1 - What are 3 goals that you want to accomplish this year?
2 - What is one habit you need to master to help you achieve this goal?
