Football legend Deion Sanders has gone from an NFL star to a youth football coach, to a high school football coach, to a Power 5 college football coach. In his first game as the coach at Colorado, Deion and his team upset a top-25 TCU football team.
The next Monday, he was interviewed on Undisputed by Skip Bayless and Michael Irvin.

The Standard is the Standard
At the 4:00 minute mark of the interview, Michael Irvin said a lot of people doubted Deion’s ability to coach and handle things like time management. Deion said:
“We know what we have, we know what we teach, and we know what we preach. We don’t cut deals. We are going to stick to who we are. The standard is the standard, and we will not move the scale of the standard.”

Passion and Love
Deion was then asked at the 5:45 mark, “Out of all the things your team accomplished, tell me the most surprising thing you saw.” Deion said he was most excited about how resilient they were. Both teams were scoring back and forth on each other, but he said nobody on his team flinched and nobody tripped because that was their attitude, and that is how they practiced. They knew they were going to get it done because of how they practiced. He said everything we saw, they practiced.
Deion then said:
“ We LOVE this game. We have like-minded young men who love the game. I look for passion; not just for ballers, but for passion and love in these young men.”

Travis Hunter | He’s a Dawg
At the 8:00 mark, Michael Irvin asked Deion about Travis Hunter. He asked, “What makes him so special?” Deion said, “This guy is cut differently. He’s a dog. I don’t have captains; I believe in leaders. Every dog isn’t a leader, and every leader isn’t a dog, but he’s both.”
He said he can’t keep Travis Hunter off the field. He told him he wanted Travis to rest and not practice, but he couldn’t keep him off the practice field.

Confidence vs Consistency
At the 13:40 mark, Michael Irvin asked Deion how important it is to gain confidence from early wins. Deion said:
One thing we don’t lack is confidence. What we need is consistency. We need to get consistency in the little things we do. And that starts in practice. The way we practice will be the way we perform.
