Leila Hormozi is a CEO who has built, scaled, and sold 3 businesses by the age of 28 and has a net worth of over $100 million net worth.
In the video above, Leila says the one thing that has helped her do all this is consistency. She says, “Consistency is making a commitment and seeing it through. It’s pairing your words with actions over a long time. It’s not a complicated concept; it is a challenging one.”
She breaks consistency down into 5, practical steps:
Step 1: Create a Vision and Set Goals
It’s hard to be consistent if you don’t know what you’re working for.
What is the vision for your school?
What is the vision for your sports?
What is the vision for your family?
What is the vision for your relationships?
What is the vision for your body?
Who do you want to be, and what does that look like? What’s your snapshot of your future? Where do you want to end up? How do you want to feel, how do you want to show up, and how do you want to look?
A vision without a plan is just a dream; if we want to make our dreams a reality, turn them into plans. Create a vision board and a goal board, and break down those goals so that you know what to do every day to get closer to your goals.
Take your dream and break it down into actionable steps - then get to work!
Step 2 - Choose Supporting Behaviors
You are what you repeatedly do. Ask yourself: What do I need to start doing, what do I need to stop doing, and what do I need to continue doing?
How are you spending your time? Where your time goes, attention goes, and where your attention goes, that’s what grows.
What are 3-5 things you need to start doing?
What are 3-5 things you need to stop doing?
What are 3-5 things you need to keep doing?
Step 3 - Make it Easy
You don’t rise to the level of your goals; you fall to the level of your environment. How can you create an environment that will make it easy for you to start new and continue good habits while stopping and ending bad habits?
Research shows that a new behavior takes about 66 days to become automatic. Create a plan and stick to it …
Step 4 - Reward Yourself
Reinforce positive behaviors by rewarding yourself and others, and if you can find people to help you reinforce positive behaviors and good habits, you will be far more likely to succeed, so find a buddy or accountability partner to go on this journey with.
It’s hard to be consistent when you get zero feedback. Find ways to monitor progress and receive feedback.
Step 5 - Stick with the Plan
Fitness expert Jillian Michaels once said, “It takes 4 weeks for you to notice your body changing, 8 weeks for your friends to notice, & 12 weeks for the rest of the world to notice. Give it 12 weeks.”
Stick to your plan. Most people quit too early because they aren’t seeing enough progress.
Leila says the results you are getting today are the results you got from the work you did 3, 6, and 12 months ago. So if you are wondering, “Why is it not happening yet?” know that momentum takes time to change and turn in the opposite direction. You are probably still receiving the results from the habits you had 3, 6, and 12 months ago.
Results take time.
Most people are just 6-12 months of consistency away from a new life or being a completely different version of themselves, but they can’t get past the fact that the first 3 months are the slowest and hardest.
Most people think their minds have all the power over their bodies, but the opposite is true. If you’re struggling with consistency, get out of your head and let your body do the talking and guide you.
If you have doubts or don’t believe in yourself, just take action. You can create positive thoughts and feelings through your actions. You don’t have to believe you can be consistent; you just have to be consistent, and eventually, you will.
Stop trying to achieve your goals, and start trying to be consistent. If you can be consistent, you can achieve your goals.
SOMETHING(s) TO THINK ABOUT
1 - What was your biggest takeaway from the message?
2 - What are 3-5 things you want to accomplish in the next 6-12 months?
3 - What are 3-5 things you need to do to accomplish these goals?
4 - What are 3-5 things that can get in your way?
5 - What are you going to do to beat those obstacles?
