Coach Ty Lue played with Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, and he coached Lebron James, so he has a great perspective on three of the greatest athletes to ever play basketball.
At the 46:40 mark of an interview with All the Smoke, he was asked what was his first impression of Kobe Bryant.
Coach Lue said Kobe was a killer. He never lost his confidence. He said Kobe thought he was the best player in the world every night.
He then told a story about how they were both injured and how they would play 1 on 1 full-court every day. Kobe would have to play with his left hand because his right hand was broken.
He talked about how Kobe would work out at 5:30 every morning, he was the first one to the gym and the last to leave because he wanted to be the best. He wanted to win everything every single day: shooting drills, sprints, everything. That’s why he was great.
