Choose Joy

“Growth equals joy. It’s a joy and satisfaction that comes from witnessing the growth from doing things you didn’t know you can do.” Mark Pope

You might not realize this yet, but this is all going to be over before you know it. We all retire at some point, and all we are left with are the lessons learned, the relationships gained, and the memories we made.

Take some time to enjoy it all before it’s too late.

When I was in high school, I couldn’t wait to get to college. When I was in college, I couldn’t wait to graduate. When I got my first job, I couldn’t wait to get promoted, get married, start a family, and get a nice, big house and my dream car.

But when I got all that, I started to miss high school and college. When I became a head coach and inherited the pressure and responsibilities that came with it, I missed just being an athlete or just being a 1st year assistant coach where it was all about the relationships with athletes and making them better.

Missing the past made me realize how important it is to enjoy everyday life and enjoy each step along the way. I didn’t realize how much fun I was having in each phase of my life until it had already passed,  so I made a vow to enjoy everyday life in the moment, not just in retrospect.

Every day, choose joy.

Choose to enjoy what you do and who you do it with. Problems come every day, and as a coach and leader, I have to put out fires every day, but I choose to find the joy, even in the struggles.

Question of the Day: How do you find and choose joy in all that you do?
