“Character drives the process, and the process drives results.” - Brett Ledbetter
Have you ever been told to Trust the Process?
Brett Ledbetter works with some of the best coaches and athletes in the world, and he has said, “Character drives the process, and the process drives the results.”
The process is what you do, and how hard and consistently you work. Trusting the process can be simple: show up, do your job, and add value, and over time, you will get the results you want.
Showing up and doing your job is the process, and your character is how you do it. Your character determines if you slack off or go as hard as you can, whether you touch the line or not, and how coachable and how good of a teammate you are.
If you can commit to just showing up on time and being prepared, and then do your job with excellence (to the best of your ability) and with integrity (doing what you say you will do), you can add value to every team you are on, and that will lead to the results you want.
Most people aren’t willing or disciplined enough to keep showing up no matter what, and even fewer are committed to doing their jobs with excellence and integrity. Doing so can create an advantage because if you can do those things, you will catch up, pass by, and leave behind many people doing things that require no talent, just character, and character drives the process that leads to results.
Questions of the Day: How would you rate your character and ability to show up and do your job consistently, and in what ways can you get better?
