"Gotta get into character.” - Chris Hyppa

How well do you control your attitude?

Airplanes have an instrument called an Attitude Indicator that shows the position of the plane against the horizon. When the airplane is climbing, they say it has a nose-high attitude because the nose of the plane is pointing up above the horizon, and when the plane is falling or diving, they say it has a nose-down attitude because the nose is below the horizon.

So if the horizon is the average, when our attitude is up, we can expect to have an above-average life, and when our attitude is down, we can expect to have a below-average life.

The same can be said for people; we rise when we have a nose-up attitude, and we fall when we have a nose-down attitude. The pilot can change their attitude and altitude whenever they need to by adjusting, and so can we.

It starts with how we wake up and start our day.

After the 2024 Olympics, I watched a video of professional basketball player Nigel Hayes talking about watching Steph Curry and Lebron James meditating before their games. In the comments, basketball trainer Chris Hyppa posted, ’Gotta get into character.’ Some of the best athletes and entertainers take time before they perform to get into character, and you can too.

Take time every morning or before important moments to get into character.

Then check your attitude throughout the day, and make adjustments when needed.

Self-awareness is one of the most valuable skills we can learn and master.

Throughout the day, think about where your attitude is and how can it be better and more beneficial.

Question of the Day: How well do you control your attitude, and how can you get better?
