Success is in your routine. You can’t have a million-dollar dream with minimum wage habits.



In a motivational video titled 5 Things Successful People Do Before 8 AM, Terri Savelle Foy shares a powerful message on how you can change or advance your life in record time.

She starts by sharing a story about Leadership and Development expert John Maxwell. John did a Q&A and a young man attending said, “I want to do what you do.” John said, “It’s not about doing what I do, the question is - do you want to do what I did so you can do what I do?”


The young man then asked, “I want to be a leader - where do I start?”


John said, “Start with you. If you wouldn’t follow yourself, why would anyone else want to follow you?”


Terri said you can’t have a million-dollar dream with minimum wage habits. John Maxwell has said, “If I came to your house and watched you for 24 hours, I can tell if you are going to be a success or failure. The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine. If you change your routine, you can change your life.”


How do you do this?


The Rule of 5



If you take an ax and swing at a tree 5 times every day, eventually you will knock the tree down. If it’s a smaller tree, it could take days or weeks, and if it is a larger tree, it could take months or years, but if you take 5 swings every day without quitting, eventually the tree will fall no matter how big it is.


The tree is your goal. Find your goal or tree and commit to doing 5 things every day to achieve them. John Maxwell’s Rule of 5 is: every day he reads, every day he files, every day he thinks, every day he asks questions and every day he writes.


Terri has identified 5 habits that she would commit to doing every day so that she could become the person she wanted to be.


1 - Pray and meditate. Praying is talking to God, and meditating is listening to God. When you go into prayer time, take a journal and a pen and whatever comes up in your spirit, write it down.


2 - Read. The more you read, the more you learn. The more you learn, the more you earn. As you begin to grow, everything around you grows. The KEY to success is to Keep Educating Yourself. Everything grows when you grow.


3 - Listen to Audio Messages. 88% of the wealthiest people in the world turn their car into a classroom by using their drive time to learn and to grow, and only 2% of poor people do.


4 - Write and Review Your Dreams and Goals. Where there is no vision, the people perish. Imagine it's the end of the year and you realize this has been the most amazing year of your life … What would need to happen for you to say that? Whatever it is, write it down. Your chance of success increases by 42% just by writing down your goals.


5 - Exercise. Do something. If you don’t think you have enough time, stop looking at the one hour you don’t have, and start looking at the 20 minutes you do have. 20 minutes times 30 days in a month equals 10 hours of exercise. 


5.b - Talk to Yourself. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. If you want to know where your life is headed, listen to the words coming out of your mouth. Make a list of positive affirmations. Stop thinking negatively, and flip it to a positive. When you feel like you are out of shape, tell yourself, ‘I am going to be in the best shape of my life.’ If you feel like you are overweight, tell yourself, ‘Because I am doing the work, the weight is falling off my body.’


  • I am fit, firm, and muscular.

  • I am in the best shape of my life.

  • I have a fast metabolism.

  • I am enthusiastic about life.

  • I am full of energy.

  • I love to work out.

  • I am disciplined - spirit, soul, and body.


Don’t let a negative thought go unchecked, and never speak negatively about yourself. Terri said the more she did this, the more the weight fell off her.


Speak in the direction you want to go. Choose who you want to be. Identify what you have to think, say, and do to become that person. Then do the work.
